the-pitch-podcast-art-episode-art-4Emily Bennington is a bestselling author and a student / teacher of contemplative practices for both secular and spiritual audiences. Emily has led training programs on composure for numerous Fortune 500 companies and has been featured in press ranging from CNN, ABC, and Fox, to the Wall Street Journal, Glamour, Marie Claire, and Cosmopolitan.

Emily is the author of three books, including Miracles at Work: Turning Inner Guidance Into Outer Influence.

In this episode we discussed her career trajectory and how she has turned the task of finding work into a borderline spiritual experience.

Emily has actually been on both sides of the pitching world – sending out pitches and receiving them. Of course her pet peeve about pitches are the “blanket pitches” and says the ones that are tailored truly stand out. We also talked about the idea of pitching oneself and the fact that many journalists would rather hear from you directly as nobody is going to pitch you better than you pitch yourself.

Something that Emily has learned is that a great media hit is truly the gift that gives on giving as her national media hits have given her so much credibility over the years.

She was kind enough to talk in great detail about the process involved in getting published; how she found her current agent eleven years ago. Believe it or not, building relationships went a logn way in making that happen. But she does caution that the road was long and paved with bumps, so be prepared to persevere.
